4 Conductor to 3 Conductor Extra Long “Y”s for Suspended Platforms

“Y”s with Ground Fault

By starting with 3 pole 4 wire 125/250 volt circuitry (B), we have several options as to how we proceed. By using two “Hot leads for both of the “A” legs, we produce 220volts at each connector. By using one “Hot” lead and the neutral, we produce 125bolts at “C”. The enclosure at (C) contains a GFI protected duplex receptacle.

Advantages of 4 Conductor to 3 conductor “Y”s.
• The most important advantages is that 125 volts is available on the stage without the use of a Step Down transformer.

Disadvantages of 4 conductor to 3 conductor “Y”s.
• The extension cords providing electricity to the “Y” would all have to be made from 4 conductor electric cable which is, naturally, more expensive than 3 conductor. The 4 conductor wiring devices are also more expensive.
• The extension cords weigh more
• Double inventory can cause mistakes.

This obviously comes down to a business decision. There are significant advantages and disadvantages to consider.

Our extra long “Y”s come in four styles.
Blunt-Extra long legs” have no wiring devices attached. They are blunt. The GFI is included, ready for use.

20amp- All devices and boots are attached. Male wiring device is 20amp 125/250v L14-20P and female devices are L6-20C. The boots are attached in the regular way i.e. Male boot on the plug and female boots on the connectors.

30amp to 20amp- All devices are attached. Male wiring device is 30amp 125/250volt L14-30P and female devices are L6-20C. The boots are attached in the regular way i.e. Male booth on the plug and female boots on the connectors.

30amp- All devices are attached. Male wiring device is 30amp 125/250v L14-30P and female devices are 30amp 250v L6-30C.
